چکیده

We report on the measurement of the two-point correlation function, and the pairwise peculiar velocity of galaxies in the IRAS PSCz survey. We compute these statistics first in redshift space, and then obtain the projected functions which have simple relations to the real-space correlation functions on the basis of the method developed earlier in analyzing the Las Campanas Redshift Survey (LCRS) by Jing, Mo, & Börner (1998). We find that the real space two-point correlation function can be fitted to a power law ξ(r) = (r0/r) γ with γ = 1.69 and r0 = 3.70 h Mpc. The pairwise peculiar velocity dispersion σ12(rp) is close to 400 km s at rp = 3 h Mpc and decreases to about 150 km s at rp ≈

Cold Dark Matter Ii: Spatial and Velocity Statistics

We examine high-resolution gravitational N-body simulations of the Ω = 1 cold dark matter (CDM) model in order to determine whether there is any normalization of the initial density fluctuation spectrum that yields acceptable results for galaxy clustering and velocities. Dense dark matter halos in the evolved mass distribution are identified with luminous galaxies; the most massive halos are al...

Spatial and Dynamical Biases in Velocity Statistics of Galaxies

We present velocity statistics of galaxies and their biases inferred from the statistics of the underlying dark matter using a cosmological hydrodynamic simulation of galaxy formation in low-density and spatially flat (Ω0 = 0.3 and λ0 = 0.7) cold dark matter cosmogony. Our simulation is based on a P M N -body Poisson solver and smoothed particle hydrodynamics. Galaxies in our simulation are ide...

Modeling Pairwise Peculiar Velocity Distribution Function of Dark Matter from Halo Density Profiles

We derive the pairwise peculiar velocity distribution function of dark matter particles applying the dark matter halo approach. Unlike the previous work, we do not assume a Gaussian velocity distribution function of dark matter in a single halo, but compute it self-consistently with the assumed density profile for dark matter halo. The resulting distribution function is well approximated by an ...

The Dependence of Velocity and Clustering Statistics on Galaxy Properties

We use a combination of N-body simulations of the hierarchical clustering of dark matter and semi-analytic modelling of the physics of galaxy formation to probe the relationship between the galaxy distribution and the mass distribution in a flat, cold dark matter universe with mean density Ω0 = 0.3 (ΛCDM). We find that the statistical properties of the galaxy distribution in the model, as quant...
